- A dented steel component does not automatically prove impact during ocean transit.

- Condensation may have formed due to temperature variations during the voyage.
- Moisture may already have been present in the cargo, packaging materials, or timber dunnage before stuffing.
- Liquid may have leaked from damaged cargo within the container.
The presence of water establishes only one fact:
Water was present.
It does not identify where that water came from.
Determining the cause requires evaluating the physical condition together with:
- The nature and extent of the damage
- The structural condition of the container
- The packing and securing arrangement
- The cargo handling history
- Photographic records
- Supporting documentation
The objective is not to select the most convenient explanation.

A proper investigation works the other way around.
It starts with the physical evidence and reconstructs the sequence of events.

- Were photographs taken before stuffing or loading?
